Another summer of food festivals marches on here in New York City! This weekend was the annual Big Apple Barbeque held in Madison Square Park. Ten years ago the event consisted of just a few cooks serving on the sidewalk, but this weekend BABBQ celebrated the big 1-0 with a sprawling anniversary party that hosted the nation’s top pitmasters. They served up barbeque in a range of regional styles to feed lines of insatiable New Yorkers. The event was free and plates of go-big-or-go-home portions were $8, which made it easy to share, taste, and leave stuffed. The event also showcased musical acts to complete the festival atmosphere. The lines may have been long but there was plenty to watch, listen to and eventually savor, making this one more successful weekend of celebration and great food in the city.
