Tart Cherries are the hottest Superfood of the season!
If you haven’t eaten your first cherry of the season then you’re not only missing out on their deliciousness, you’re lacking their health benefits too. Unfortunately we’re not talking about all cherries, only tart ones, which stack up as one of the best superfoods in the market. Their associated health benefits are astounding, which include anti-inflammation and heart health, but their mix of tang and sweetness is what keeps us buying more.
Chefs in New York restaurants are including all kinds of cherries in their summer menus, and they aren’t always sticking with the traditional dessert role cherries are most frequently play. They’re mixing cherries in with both savory and sweet dishes and brightening up their plate with the variety of cherry colors.
Amali: Try Chef Junior Borgess’ Pliable chocolate ganache with cherries, lime curd, lime gelato, and cocoa nibs.
Union Square Cafe: Executive Chef Carmen Quagliata has cherries all over their summer menu. Check out Panna Cotta with Cherry Sorbet, Almond Brittle, and Bing Cherries, Housemade Coppa Bruschetta with Queen Anne Cherries, and Chilled Celery Soup with Cherries, Blue Cheese, and Pistachios.
Gotham Bar and Grill: Chef Alfred Portale is always up with the greenmarkets’ bests. This week on their $25 pre fixe greenmarket lunch menu they are serving the Gotham Black Forest dessert which features both a cherry balsamic and bing cherries.
Over at Cafe Grumpy they have a delicious Cherry Vanilla Scone that sounds delicious!
Who else is featuring cherries this summer? We can’t get enough!
