Alternatives to white sugar

White sugar is out and natural, colorful sweeteners are in. Next time you need a touch of sweetness in a dish, whether dessert or savory, reach for one of these five alternatives.

1. Agave has a light flavor and it’s liquid consistency makes it perfect for mixing into iced drinks.

2. Honey warms up dishes instantly.  Opt for raw (pictured) to get the same flavor with extra nutrition.

3. Molasses packs a punch, so use sparingly and make sure it will complement the flavors already present.

4. Cane sugar is an easy swap for white. It is less processed and better for you than regular sugar, but just as sweet.

5. Dried fruits give you the option to add extra color and texture and to use whole foods.
