IITK Sandwich Board: NYC’s Mouthwatering Bacon Sandwiches

Bacon

The weekly IITK Sandwich Board is where you’ll find us eating our mood inspired meals this week– think of us as your best friend you always ask for a restaurant or bar recommendation.

Is it ever not bacon season?  Few things make me happier than that salty goodness between two slices of delicious bread.  Here are some favorite spots to satisfy your cured pork cravings.

The bacon and frisee sandwich at Smile to Go:  This little guy gives true meaning to “good things come in small packages.”  Maple glazed thick cut bacon is nestled in a fresh baked brioche bun, with frisee lettuce and the perfect amount of date mayo.  It’s a little sweet and a lot delicious.

SoHo: 22 Howard Street

Bacon banjo at Pies ‘n Thighs:  If you manage to resist the temptation to eat fried chicken at this Williamsburg favorite, pop in for a breakfast bacon banjo.  Crispy bacon, egg your way and cheddar cheese all in a flaky southern style biscuit.

Brooklyn: 166 South 4th Street

Pancetta, rucola and tomato at ‘ino:  This Italian take on a classic BLT will convert any purist. Crispy cubes of pancetta bring the salty and crunch to layers of arugula and the freshest Jersey tomatoes they can find.  Keeping it all together is a thick layer of lemon aioli and two delectably soft pieces of white Pullman bread from the Blue Ribbon Market across the street.  Feeling homesick for mom’s sandwiches?  The good people at ‘ino cut the crusts off for you too.

West Village: 21 Bedford Street

The Elvis at Peanut Butter & Co.A combination of peanut butter, banana, honey and bacon fit for the King.  Sweet and salty lovers can indulge in this grilled treat made with your choice of their famous peanut butter.  I love it with the Mighty Maple, just in time for fall.

Greenwich Village: 240 Sullivan Street

Your neighborhood bodega:  When commuting for your porky pangs isn’t really an option, a.k.a the wee hours of the morning, look no further than your spot around the corner. Consistency and proximity often top my list of needs when looking for a bite.  I know what to expect and how it’s going to satisfy me: slightly burnt bacon, Hellmann’s, iceberg lettuce and tomato on wonder bread.  Go ahead and get it on wheat if your conscience beckons.
